5 Signs that You Could Use a Grief Coach
A grief coach is different from a grief counselor. A counselor is a mental health professional who can treat severe depression and trauma. A grief coach is action oriented. We can help you move forward and create tools to help you re-enter the world in a way that works for you.
You’re avoiding things (and people). Are you avoiding doing daily chores, making arrangements like choosing a headstone for a loved one, or even avoiding people that you used to enjoy being with? We can chat about the why behind that and help create next steps to avoid avoidance!
You crave structure, but need help creating it. When we grieve, we often ignore our routines and habits, and eventually, you may want to get back to that, but life is different than it was before. We can help you create new routines, structures, and build healthy habits.
You want to create tangible goals. Sometimes we know what we want, but not how to get there. We take small steps to help you complete big goals and reach important milestones. We chat with you to help you work through the next steps.
Things feel overwhelming on your own. A lot of people who are grieving feel very much alone. You may not want to talk to others for fear of burdening them or you may feel like the people in your life don’t understand or perhaps they aren’t providing the support you feel you need right now. A grief coach will walk with you, listen, and do their best to help you make a list of the next steps you’ll take to heal.
You’re ready to do something. We meet with people who have just realized that they just need to do something new because what they’re doing isn’t working. If this is you, we are here to help.
Grief coaching isn’t therapy (and isn’t a replacement for that or counseling–many people seek both opportunities when they’re mourning), but it is a way to plan how you’re going to move forward following a loss.
